Haiti Struck By 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake

Dear friends of TOH and the Fauge community,

As you may already be aware, on Saturday, August 14, the south of Haiti was struck by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake which caused extensive property damage and loss of lives. The full extent of the earthquake’s effect is still unknown as the death toll continues to rise, 1300 and counting. This devastation occurred as we were preparing for the school opening for the 2021-2022 academic year.

While we are fortunate that no loss of life has been  reported in the Fauge community, our IEBCF school building sustained significant structural damage. A portion of the building has collapsed which will likely require us to knock down and rebuild possibly half of the school building. While we are saddened by the damage to our building and its impact on our ability to serve the community, we are even more heartbroken to learn that the majority of the homes in the surrounding area have been either completely destroyed or severely damaged. This community is going to require a lot of assistance to rebuild. Please keep us and the Fauge community in your thoughts and prayers as we explore ways to provide short and long-term assistance to the community.

We will continue to work with our team on the ground to complete a thorough assessment of the current situation and ways to help meet the immediate needs.

If you would like to make a donation to help us to start assisting the community, please click on the donate button in the banner at the top of this page. Thank you in advance for empowering us to help the less fortunate.
